(NaturalNews) There is a conspiracy of oppression taking place right now against free speech about GMOs. Just this week, YouTube censored a whistleblower video that exposed Whole Foods employees lying about the fact that Whole Foods sells masses of genetically modified foods and is therefore a significant financial supporter of Monsanto.
It is now perfectly clear that this video was censored because of its truthful message, not because it actually violated any real terms of service with YouTube.
That’s the reality in which we now live: Telling the truth about GMOs is practically a crime. The mainstream media, meanwhile, refuses to cover the truth about GMO dangers. And the U.S. government itself is, of course, completely sold out to corporate interests and thus won’t warn the American people about GMOs, either.
We quite literally live in an age so bizarre and irrational that the simple act of warning fellow citizens about poison in the food is now systematically suppressed. The status quo wants you to eat your poison, shut up, stop asking questions and check yourself in at the nearest for-profit cancer center once those tumors start to show up.
That’s the new system of oppression and slavery in America: It’s medical slavery, economic slavery and even thought slavery.
The new video by Gary Null
Fighting back against that system are the courageous individuals who dare to tell the truth. And one of those individuals is Dr. Gary Null, Ph.D.
Gary Null has just released a stunning new video called “GMO Ticking Time Bomb.”
It’s a teaser, actually, for a much longer documentary to be released in the near future. Watch “GMO Ticking Time Bomb” at:
Or watch the video embedded, below.
GMO Ticking Time Bomb is a must-see video offering an information-rich overview of the situation with GMOs. It features interviews with people like Jeffrey Smith, Ronnie Cummins, David Murphy and more.
In the film, Rima Laibow also explains how Monsanto and DuPont formed a joint venture to create the “Epicyte gene” that causes permanent, irreversible infertility in both men and women.
Curcumin, boswellia and natural remedies better than pain meds

(NaturalNews) For quick relief, people reach for pain medicine to treat headache or joint pain. However, recent evidence suggests they may damage hearing. Fortunately there are more effective, natural, and safer alternatives.
Unheard of pain
Hearing loss is the sixth most common disease burden in high-income countries, affecting over 50 percent of U.S. adults by the age of 60. Now, a recent study found an increased risk of hearing loss in women who took ibuprofen or acetaminophen. The more drugs taken, the higher the risk, especially in younger women. Acetaminophen depletes glutathione, the body’s major antioxidant, leaving the inner ear susceptible.
A staggering 116 million Americans suffer from chronic pain at an annual cost as high as $635 billion a year, which is more than the yearly costs for cancer, heart disease and diabetes. A majority of sufferers opt for over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen, Tylenol and aspirin, which can have serious side-effects, like gastrointestinal bleeding, liver toxicity and allergic reactions. Now, add loss of hearing.
An earful of alternatives
It’s time to consider exploring other, safer alternatives. Many anti-inflammatory nutrients can be effective, including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B6, C, D and E. Herbs and spices on this list include capsaicin, aloe, arnica, boswellia, bromelain, chamomile, Devil’s claw, ginger, ginseng, glucosamine, grape seed, Holy Basil, olive leaf extract, red seaweed extract, tart cherries, turmeric and white willow bark. Anti-inflammatory foods include whole citrus, celery, green pepper, apples and onions. Conversely, don’t overeat or overcook foods, and restrict refined sugar, trans fats, and processed foods.
Curcumin and boswellia
High-bioavailability curcumin extract may be the remedy of choice for pain. It proved superior to arthritis drugs without adverse effects, decreased joint pain in osteoarthritis subjects, and reduced markers of inflammation. Curcumin protects joint cartilage by reducing inflammation, inhibiting inflammatory cell growth, and inhibiting cartilage-destroying enzymes.
Curcumin has also been explored for other inflammatory diseases. It dropped inflammatory cytokines by 62 percent in colon cancer victims, and reduced obesity-associated inflammation. A soy isoflavones:curcumin combination significantly reduced prostate specific antigen (PSA) and inflammation in men. Curcumin may represent a more effective and safer modality for pain management.
Boswellia also exhibits significant anti-inflammatory properties and treats pain without side-effects. In one study, boswellia reduced the pain index by 90 percent, with a dramatic increase in function. Asthmatics showed improvement in symptoms and lung function, and reduced allergic blood cells. Nearly 70 percent of ulcerative colitis patients went into remission with boswellia, compared to only 40 percent on standard meds. Osteoarthritis patients showed superior benefits from a combination of curcumin and boswellia compared to CelebrexR.
The connection between good nutrition and health is undeniable. Some nutrients may also safely reduce pain. With so many people affected, pain management is a major public health issue and a tremendous burden on healthcare. Natural anti-inflammatory foods and supplements not only help relieve pain, but may also prevent and/or heal the underlying condition, to significantly reduce healthcare costs.

Shock findings in new GMO study: Rats fed lifetime of GM corn grow horrifying tumors, 70% of females die early!
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com
(NaturalNews) Eating genetically modified corn (GM corn) and consuming trace levels of Monsanto’s Roundup chemical fertilizer caused rats to develop horrifying tumors, widespread organ damage, and premature death. That’s the conclusion of a shocking new study that looked at the long-term effects of consuming Monsanto’s genetically modified corn.
The study has been deemed “the most thorough research ever published into the health effects of GM food crops and the herbicide Roundup on rats.” News of the horrifying findings is spreading like wildfire across the internet, with even the mainstream media seemingly in shock over the photos of rats with multiple grotesque tumors… tumors so large the rats even had difficulty breathing in some cases. GMOs may be the new thalidomide.
“Monsanto Roundup weedkiller and GM maize implicated in ‘shocking’ new cancer study” wrote The Grocery, a popular UK publication. (http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/topics/technology-and-supply-chain/monsant…)
It reported, “Scientists found that rats exposed to even the smallest amounts, developed mammary tumors and severe liver and kidney damage as early as four months in males, and seven months for females.”
The Daily Mail reported, “Fresh row over GM foods as French study claims rats fed the controversial crops suffered tumors.” (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2205509/Fresh-fears-GM…)
It goes on to say: “The animals on the GM diet suffered mammary tumors, as well as severe liver and kidney damage. The researchers said 50 percent of males and 70 percent of females died prematurely, compared with only 30 percent and 20 percent in the control group.”
The study, led by Gilles-Eric Seralini of the University of Caen, was the first ever study to examine the long-term (lifetime) effects of eating GMOs. You may find yourself thinking it is absolutely astonishing that no such studies were ever conducted before GM corn was approved for widespread use by the USDA and FDA, but such is the power of corporate lobbying and corporate greed.
The study was published in The Food & Chemical Toxicology Journal and was just presented at a news conference in London.
Findings from the study
Here are some of the shocking findings from the study:
• Up to 50% of males and 70% of females suffered premature death.
• Rats that drank trace amounts of Roundup (at levels legally allowed in the water supply) had a 200% to 300% increase in large tumors.
• Rats fed GM corn and traces of Roundup suffered severe organ damage including liver damage and kidney damage.
• The study fed these rats NK603, the Monsanto variety of GM corn that’s grown across North America and widely fed to animals and humans. This is the same corn that’s in your corn-based breakfast cereal, corn tortillas and corn snack chips.
The Daily Mail is reporting on some of the reaction to the findings:
France’s Jose Bove, vice-chairman of the European Parliament’s commission for agriculture and known as a fierce opponent of GM, called for an immediate suspension of all EU cultivation and import authorisations of GM crops. ‘This study finally shows we are right and that it is urgent to quickly review all GMO evaluation processes,’ he said in a statement. ‘National and European food security agencies must carry out new studies financed by public funding to guarantee healthy food for European consumers.’ (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2205509/Fresh-fears-GM…)
Read the study abstract
The study is entitled, “A Comparison of the Effects of Three GM Corn Varieties on Mammalian Health.” Read the abstract here:
That abstract include this text. Note: “hepatorenal toxicity” means toxic to the liver.
Our analysis clearly reveals for the 3 GMOs new side effects linked with GM maize consumption, which were sex- and often dose-dependent. Effects were mostly associated with the kidney and liver, the dietary detoxifying organs, although different between the 3 GMOs. Other effects were also noticed in the heart, adrenal glands, spleen and haematopoietic system. We conclude that these data highlight signs of hepatorenal toxicity, possibly due to the new pesticides specific to each GM corn. In addition, unintended direct or indirect metabolic consequences of the genetic modification cannot be excluded.
Here are some quotes from the researchers:
“This research shows an extraordinary number of tumors developing earlier and more aggressively – particularly in female animals. I am shocked by the extreme negative health impacts.” – Dr Michael Antoniou, molecular biologist, King’s College London.
“We can expect that the consumption of GM maize and the herbicide Roundup, impacts seriously on human health.” – Dr Antoniou.
“This is the first time that a long-term animal feeding trial has examined the impact of feeding GM corn or the herbicide Roundup, or a combination of both and the results are extremely serious. In the male rats, there was liver and kidney disorders, including tumors and even more worryingly, in the female rats, there were mammary tumors at a level which is extremely concerning; up to 80 percent of the female rats had mammary tumors by the end of the trial.” – Patrick Holden, Director, Sustainable Food Trust.

(NaturalNews) No matched groups. That’s the short answer. It’s a basic principle in scientific studies.
Whether it’s vegetables or humans, you create two matched groups that are as close to each other as possible in all relevant ways, and then you expose them to different protocols and record what happens.
For example, Washington State University did the right thing with strawberries. John Reganold and his colleagues took the same strain of berry and planted it in two plots of earth right next to each other. One patch was conventionally grown (with chemicals) and the other was raised organically.
Same soil, same weather, same strain of berry. The result? The organic strawberries had higher nutritional content.
In the recent infamous Stanford study that is raising a ruckus, the conclusion was: conventional and organic food are nutritionally equal. But no planting of food was done. No study was done at all, in fact. It was a review of prior published studies, and there is no indication that those prior studies handled crops the correct way, as the Washington State strawberry researchers did.
Therefore, it’s not science. It’s perhaps cogitation, contemplation, comparison, but it’s not science.
Sorry. Try again. Try again to raise doubts about organic food, try to label people who want organic food as cultists, try to make a sociological point, try to save the world with GMOs. Whatever. You failed this time. You may have served Big Biotech, but again, that has nothing to do with science.
How about the recent “golden rice” study in China? There is quite an uproar about that one, too. It appears two dozen children were taken into the protocol and fed GMO rice without informed consent. One Chinese health official has been suspended while an investigation is done.
The point of the study was to show that this engineered form of rice could save millions of lives in poverty-strickened lands, where people have an acute Vitamin A deficiency.
The golden rice, injected with viral genes and daffodil genes, produces beta-carotene, and the body makes that into Vitamin A.
Well, there are a few unannounced problems here as well. First, if the rice is polished, the sector of the grain where the beta-carotene is stored is wiped away. But the bigger issue is the human diet itself, the requirements for basic survival.
To put it simply, no one absorbs and uses Vitamin A or any other vitamin productively when they are eating nothing but rice, when they are deprived of a minimal diet, when they are chronically living in a near-starvation zone.
So to claim that golden rice can save millions of lives is sheer folly and criminal fraud.
Now, if instead of planting miles of golden rice (to eventually benefit Big Biotech’s bottom line), you planted ordinary green vegetables, you might achieve uptake of some Vitamin A. But that’s too easy and too real. It’s not exotic. It’s not “sophisticated.” It’s not technocratic.
Actually, if the golden rice “solution” is implemented in a big way all over the impoverished and starving Third World, it could rightly be called depopulation. Because that’s what it will be.
People need to eat varied food to survive. That’s not hard to understand. They need calories and protein. They need a number of vitamins and minerals in their food. They need clean water. They need land on which to grow this food—rather than being crowded into cities while big agribusiness corporations, who have stolen their farms, plant coffee and other cash crops for export out of the country.
This is not high-tech knowledge, either. Half of what big agribusiness does is spout pseudo-scientific propaganda to overwhelm basic common sense and obscure their crimes of theft and murder.
Murder? Yes. What would you call it, when the Monsantos of this world push a land-grab solution (that doesn’t work) on populations, when the people need to use the same land to grow a variety of food, in order to survive?

(NaturalNews) Want your headache gone? Take two Tylenol in your hand, drink a glass of water, throw the Tylenol away… headache gone. Dutch researchers found the same recovery rate of drug takers versus placebos. It is the water that you drink that does the job. Not the liver-toxic-internal bleeding-hearing loss-impotence-problems-Tylenol. Drinking water and staying hydrated alleviates pain time and time again as dehydration causes histamines to react in areas of pain in the body. One of Big Pharma’s biggest dirty secrets is that most medications are in fact, antihistamines that treat the localized symptoms of pain – but not the cause.
There’s no credible evidence that proves “aspirin therapy” can lower heart attack risk either. In fact, aspirin damages the stomach, causes ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, hemorrhagic strokes and has recently been linked to causing cancer. A study published by the National Cancer Institute found that women who took two or more aspirins a week for more than 20 years had a 58 percent increased risk of pancreatic cancer compared with women who rarely, or never, used aspirin. The risk of pancreatic cancer rose the more aspirins were taken. Women who took 14 or more aspirins a week had an 86 percent increased risk of pancreatic cancer over non-users.
The natural answers for pain
• Water is always the first choice of natural treatment for pain. Drinking two eight ounce glasses of natural spring water or reverse osmosis water can chase away abdominal pain, heartburn, back pain, arthritis pain, colitis, angina and even migraine headaches and more. Water has been reported to prevent and reverse premature aging, cure asthma in a few days, cure hypertension without diuretics or other medications and even help with weight loss effortlessly and naturally, without strict dieting.
• Fish oil reduces inflammation pain. A 2006 survey of arthritis patients found that daily fish oil supplements reduced pain in 60 percent of patients. One study found 59 percent of pain med takers discontinued taking their prescription NSAID medications for pain and 80 percent stated that their joint pain had improved after taking fish oil for one month. The kicker: There were no significant side effects reported with fish oil.
• Vitamin D deficiency was noted in 69 percent of inflammatory joint diseases or connective tissue diseases, 77 percent of soft tissue rheumatism, 62 percent of osteoarthritis, 75 percent of back pain, and 71 percent of osteoporosis. Avoid taking synthetic calciferol and get your vitamin D naturally from the sun or take the natural cholecalciferol D3 form.
Other natural remedies are Meadowsweet and Willow Bark,, Fructo Borate (shown to reduce joint pain in 79 percent of mild to moderate osteoarthritis), Bromelain (reduces pain and swelling, improves joint mobility and promotes tissue repair), cilantro tablets move pain-causing heavy metals out of the tissues while chlorella tablets bind to the metals for removal, Boswellia (works like the current OTR COX-2 inhibitor drugs), coffee enemas (reduce body toxin loads and inflammation), liver cleanses (unburden the liver and gall bladder that are the cause of a lot of mid-back pain), and acupuncture (works by releasing adenosine – a natural painkiller).
Stop treating the symptoms
Would you purposefully cut the wire to your oil warning light to your car engine to keep it from blaring at you? It costs about $6 for a quart of oil and $3,000 or more for an “engine transplant.” There is no big money in selling the customer the quart of oil, but there is a lot of money to be made in the “hospital” (mechanics shop).
There’s a king’s ransom being paid to Big Pharma to do just this with our body’s pain signal system. Big Pharma medications short the body’s system out by treating the symptoms only. Pain is a symptom and not a disease to be “managed.” Find the cause and fix it.

Everything you need to know about protein
Friday, August 17, 2012 by: Aurora Geib
(NaturalNews) For certain people, getting protein is serious business. Bodybuilders wanting that perfect Arnold Schwarzenegger build, vegetarians looking for that perfect source of protein or health buffs searching for the best kind of protein to ensure their health.
Chemically speaking, a protein is composed of amino acids covalently bonded through peptide bonds to form a chain. It has a number of functions within and out of the cells such as structural roles, acting as catalyst, transporting ferry ions and molecules across membranes and hormones.
Nutritionally, protein is a macronutrient which assists in building up and repairing muscles and bones. It is the building block of life and the body needs it to repair and maintain itself. Every cell in the body including body fluids contains protein with the exception of the bile and urine. Human growth and development especially during pregnancy require protein to be successful.
ScienceDaily.com, an online resource of new scientific discoveries, recently revealed that it is protein and not sugar that keeps us thin and awake. Scientists from the University of Cambridge discovered that wakefulness and energy expenditures actually relied on orexin cells. These cells secrete a substance that stimulates the brain. When these cells malfunction, sleep disorders set in. Orexin cells also influence our energy levels. When scientists studied what nutrient orexin cells responded to, they discovered that proteins stimulate the orexin cells more than any other nutrient. They further discovered that while glucose blocks the action of orexin cells, amino acids, when they interfered, negated the effect of glucose.
In a 2005 study, it was settled that elevating protein intake helps reduce body weight faster than limiting carbohydrate consumption. This practically explains what we have already observed: protein-rich meals make people more alert than sugar-rich meals. (http://www.naturalnews.com/034596_metabolism_protein_sugar.html#)
What happens if we have a protein deficiency?
Seeing how important protein is, not getting enough can have deleterious effects. The following are the adverse effect of not getting enough protein:
• Protein deficiency increases susceptibility to dental carries
• Protein energy malnutrition (PEM) whose severe form is kwashiorkor, a condition characterized by degeneration of the liver, anemia with the most obvious external condition being inflammation of the skin (http://www.biog1105-1106.org/demos/105/unit6/media/kwashiorkor.pdf)
• Marasmus, a condition characterized by muscle wasting and reduced body fat levels, which increases the risk of infection
• Impaired mental health
• Organ failure
• Wasting and shrinkage of muscle tissues
How much protein do we need?
For the average adult, getting enough protein is important. For adult women, 46 grams of protein daily are recommended while men; slightly more at 56 grams per day. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gives the following recommended daily requirements for the following age groups:
• Children ages one to three should have at least 13 grams
• Children ages four to eight should have at least 19 grams
• Children ages 9 to 13 should have at least 34 grams
• Girls ages 14 to 18 should have at least 46 grams
• Boys ages to 14 to 18 should have at least 52 grams
Most people, especially in America get more than their necessary protein without any adverse effects.
Nevertheless, despite protein’s capacity to suppress appetite, taking in too much protein can contribute to calorie intake and if it happens to be more than your calorie needs, it might contribute to weight gain. Animal sources of protein contain saturated fat linked to elevated levels of bad cholesterol, increasing the risk of heart disease.
For people with certain kidney diseases, a lower protein diet is recommended to avoid straining the kidneys.
People with allergies should also be careful in taking in protein supplements especially if they are lactose intolerant. Most commercial protein powder use inferior sources of protein and fill their product with artificial sweeteners and preservatives. Moreover, products that contain egg, soy, gluten and whey are allergic and promote inflammatory reactions. (http://www.naturalnews.com/034596_metabolism_protein_sugar.html)
Sources of protein
Not all proteins are the same. Proteins that contain all the amino acids required to create new proteins are called complete proteins. Animal sources of meat are usually complete proteins. If you should choose to enjoy your protein from meat, choose the leanest proteins; those with the least amount of fat and calories. Best sources of this kind are fish, skinless chicken or turkey and eggs. If it should be red meat, choose the leanest cuts like loin and tenderloin.
Another kind of protein is incomplete protein. This type lacks one or more essential amino acids unlike complete proteins. They are usually found in fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains. This type of protein may lack one or more amino acids needed to make new protein. Vegetarians and vegans are thus encouraged to enjoy a variety of protein rich foods in order to keep the body’s system in good shape and should consider having a good serving of beans, legumes, soy foods and soy milk.
Another healthy option to consider is protein powders.
With the rise in health consciousness, protein powders have become one of the most popular supplements today. Body builders use it to gain more muscle mass, vegetarians looking for alternative sources of protein and even health buffs who want to increase their quality of life by finding potent sources of protein. Due to its ability to provide essential and branched out amino acids in a highly absorbable form, protein powders can be considered as an alternative supplement to a well-rounded, healthy diet.
Protein powders maximize the effect of workouts for athletes and bodybuilders who enjoy a drink every day after a work out to help the body begin recovery by building new tissues and muscles needed to burn the excess calories and maintain a steady weight.
Despite the number of supplements in the market, not all are quality supplements as some contain substances inconsistent with gluten free and vegan diets. The most common sources used in commercial powders include egg, soy, whey and wheat gluten. A discerning consumer should shy away from soy and gluten proteins as they are highly allergic and promote inflammatory reactions within thebody.
For those who observe vegan and gluten free diets they will find that brown rice protein is an alternative to traditional protein powder.

Master herbalist, Klaus Ferlow, examines what herbalism actually is and gives a brief outline of the history of herbalism. Rather than a backup to normal orthodox medicine, herbalism should be primary healthcare.
MOST PEOPLE IN NORTH AMERICA might not be familiar what herbalism is all about and I would like to inform you about the history of herbs and why it is very important for your health and well being.
I would like to start by using the quote from Debra St. Claire, Master Herbalist (MH), graduated from the Dominion Herbal College, Burnaby, B.C., the oldest North American Herbal College since 1926 said in her Pocket Herbal Reference Guide from 1992:
“After the ability to synthesize medicine from inert substances such as petroleum and minerals was developed the therapeutic use of herbs diminished. The art of pharmacy turned to the production of drugs which could bring the quickest relief of symptoms, ignoring the reason that the symptoms appeared. As we look back, perhaps it is time to reconsider the path. The use of these substances has spawned a myriad of unexpected problems, such as suppression of the very signals that our bodies produce to alert us to a need of change. Pain itself is a call to action – a call to remedy an imbalance in our lifestyle. The proficient use of herbal therapy is directly connected to our ability to sense the first signal and to adjust our lifestyle accordingly. It is when these signals are continually ignored that disease has a chance to set itself more deeply within our bodies.”
I myself was honoured by the Dominion Herbal College for my lifetime of dedication to the cause of herbal medicine, as practitioner, manufacturer, author, promoter and defender of herbs and the practice of art and science in herbal medicine. I received an Honorary Master Herbalist Diploma November 25th, 2008 and I am only the 5fth recipient of this prestigious Award in their 86th history.
“Herbs and plants are medical jewels gracing in the woods, fields and lanes, which few eyes see and minds understand.” Carolus Linneus, Naturalist 1707 – 1778
THE HERB AS HEALER
A plant that is used as a medicine is referred as an herb, the Latin word herba, the Old French erbe, and the derivation of Middle English herbe. It can be pronounced with or without the initial “h-sound”. Originally, the term herb only applied to non-woody plants. Later it came to be used to refer to any part of any plant used for flavouring or medicine. In the field of complementary and alternative health care, (CAM) – I really don’t like that term since we are dealing in traditional medicine and CAM as far as I am concerned should be used by the allopathic medicine – it is now used to mean any plant, in whole or in part, having nutritional and/or medicinal value. Individual or combined parts of plant that may be used include: seed, fruit, flower, leaf, stem, or root/rhizome.
Herbalism, or phytotherapy, is the use of plants to support the natural healing ability of the body. Several types of herbal medicine systems are in use today – including Ayurvedic, Chinese, European, Native American, and Western Herbalism. Even though each system uses different morphologies, terms and herbs, each of these systems treat the whole body holistically; using the energy of the plants to work in synergy in each individual, in order to help the body to heal itself because the body itself is the best healer! Herbs have a remarkable history of healing human beings and maintaining good health when properly used.
Most herbs in their natural state are safe, and do not leave a residue in the body that could produce negative side effects. The opposite is with most drugs, synthetically developed in laboratories, even though some are extracted from plants. When these plants are not used in their natural state it canresult in harmful side effects. Drugs tend to treat or mask a symptom or condition, while the use of herbals emphasizes that one could avoid getting sick in the first place because herbs help to balance and support the body.
The compounds in herbs work synergistically in the body to promote healing. All plants have therapeutic properties as they contain a variety of biologically active substances. Plants undergo photosynthesis, transforming carbon dioxide into energy rich substances. The resulting carbon chains are further transformed into a variety of compounds such as lipids, alkaloids, essential oils and tannins. Through other biochemical process, minerals and nitrates are absorbed by the roots and transformed into vitamins, trace minerals and antibiotics.
Herbs can affect biological systems in our bodies at the cellular and organ level. Ultimately these high levels of biologically active substances can produce pharmacological and therapeutic effects. The natural value of herbs is very high and organically grown herbs (without the use of chemical fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides spraying) offer maximum benefits. Herbal medicine represents a particular approach to healing which differs from allopathic medicine. Rather relieving single symptoms with a single active ingredient, herbs offer a holistic approach by striving to heal the entire body by treating the cause. Medicine can only be truly holistic if it acknowledges the social and cultural context which the illness occurred, and then the desired healing takes place.
The renewed interest in holistic traditional medicine, as well as a great number of other alternative complementary therapies, has encouraged changes within the existing medical profession. It is incumbent upon us all to seek out and utilize appropriate health alternatives. It appears that these opportunities will continue in the coming years. It might surprise you that even today 80% of the total world population of 7 billion is still using herbs, herbal remedies and homeopathy for healing. This was also stated a few years ago by Chris Kilham, the medicine hunter, author, lecturer – he teaches ethnobotany at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst at his lecture at public health shows in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
There are multiple ways to dispense herbs: aromatics, decoctions, hot or cold infusions, juices, creams, salves, ointments, liniments, lotions, soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, sprays, medicinal oils, conditioners, teas, poultice and fomentations, powders, perfumes, syrups, tinctures, extracts (alcohol or glycerine based), pills, tablets, capsules, and whole herb (dry or fresh) and for cooking. The herbalist takes into consideration the nature of the imbalance and the method to best take full advantage of the healing attributes of the specific herb. To increase effectiveness, herbs may be used both internally and externally.
OUR HERBAL HERITAGE
Medicinal plants are mentioned in the Bible, and various herbs are mentioned throughout.
“In the beginning God created the heaven on earth…and God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to you. It shall be for meat.” Genesis 1:29
“He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and the herb for the service of man.” Psalm 204-14″
The ancient Egyptians wrote their findings on papyrus. The Sumerians from Mesopotamia (modern Iraq) used tablets of cuneiform writing. Hippocrateswas a famous Greek doctor. The Romans believed Greek doctors were the best. Galen was the doctor to the emperor Marcus Aurelius. Dioscorides was the emperor Nero’s doctor. We learnt about herbs used in ancient India and ancient China through a famous Arabic doctor called Avicenna who had read the writing. Throughout Europe and in the Middle Ages monks in their monasteries, grew and used herbs as medicines. In Germany Hildegard of Bingen who was a abbess and a herbalist treated the sick with herbs. Voyages of discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries resulted in the pilgrims taking toAmerica herbs they used in England. Then, over time, herbs native to America came to Europe and other parts of the world. In Britain, Nicholas Culpeter published a book to help ordinary people make their own herbal remedies instead of paying for expensive ones from doctors.
Herbs have been used for uncounted time for various purposes like healing the sick and infirm. People thought that herbs keep the body in tune with nature as nature intended and maintain proper balance. Many scientific studies still continue with modern research following up the lead of old folklore and herbal uses to help finding new western medicine. Man also been aware of the effect on the body, mind spirit and emotion. For example – flowers were utilized to attract love, food and protection. Fragrant plants were worn to heal the body and give you a sense of well being. The most costly flowers are offered to gods and goddesses and the use of aromatic incense is recorded from ancient times. When herbs are taken, the body starts to get cleansed and purifies itself. Unlike chemically synthesized, highly concentrated drugs that may produce many negative side affects, herbs can effectively realign the body’s defences. Herbs do not produce instant cures, but rather offer a way to put the body in proper tune with nature. Nevertheless you are now in charge of your own body and health! And remember: “For every disease we know Mother Earth provides a herb to health and grow!”
I come to the conclusion of my article by using a quote from Dr. Carolyn Dean, MD, ND, Herbalist Acupuncturist, Nutritionist from her book “Death by Modern Medicine:”
“We must always remember that allopathy is only a medical model born of the industrial age, and to suggest that the oldest and most used healing arts in the world are secondary to allopathy is not only insulting but inaccurate as well. These traditional methods of restoring and maintaining maximum health, by virtue of their track record of safety and success, take second place to no other medical model.”
My suggestion is you should try herbs, herbal remedies and homeopathic medicine (derived from botanical plants) so you can judge for yourself. But read all ingredients on the labels and avoid any harmful dangerous, hazardous chemicals. For more information about them, please check these websites:
